Propose sending Huropeen Aaulstont Superintendent to India as soon as the question of Indian Police is decided, He will be required to investigate cases of all Indieus now in India with a view to further employment, retirement, etc., and to recruit further officers if necessary, It is desired to dispense with 211 Sikhs except two or three, and only employ Muslims. Anticipate that some former members will be invalided, some will wish to retire, but cannot be aure that the muber of those willing to return will not be greater than required.
It is also essential that a number should not return, even if fit and willing, in view of their activities during the Japanese war and occupation, Evidence obtainable against them is, however, very meagre and insufficient in many cases for dismissal proceedings, particularly in view of the fact that the majority were repatriated Jlmost immediately after re-occupation before enquiries into their activities could be undertaken, Furthermore, as the men are row in India, administrative Aifficultica arranging for dismissal or compulsory setirement by normal procedure entarling reforence to the Executive Council, etc., would be very great.
